work in progress

It has been a very satisfying experience these past months to execute an idea, starting in clay and working with a foundry to develop the sculpture into bronze or stainless steel.
This piece titled "Family" is again exploring the theme of connection, and the relationships between the figures. I'm especially interested in the negative space. Working in bronze allows new possibilities in form as well as interesting patinas.

Life is my best inspiration. As I finish this piece called “ Waiting,” Im looking forward to the delivery of my second grandchild. My daughter lives out of state so I did not get to enjoy her ever changing body during pregnancy, but I was with her in a special way during this creation

I am taking a year to focus on developing a body of work without any pressure of working toward a certain show or project. I am enjoying this direction of just “working” in my studio and seeing what I can birth. I am at a stage in life where I have the freedom to do this, and am excited where it will lead. These are the first pieces in a series I call “Figuratively Speaking”. They are all about form and expressing attitude through minimalisum. I’m also experimenting with exciting finishes, applied in a painterly way, and then fired multiple times.
